The stash room

I have been on Holidays since last week. I knew one major thing I wanted to get done was to finally clean out the stash room and get it done.

In my opinion it is still a WIP but looks so much better then it did at the beginning if the month! I have also been watching and talking to Christin and getting some inspiration and ideas

No before pics coming as the mess was insane!

But, here are some after pics for you to see. (Sorry if the light is bad, pics taken with iPhone and the light in room isn't good... yet)

This is the view from the door. On the right is my "office"area, followed by my new corner table (from Ikea)

Next is my sewing machine table that was my grandmothers. I don't know how to use it very well, but hope to take some classes in the fall. To the left of the sewing machine is my new bookcase. BIG thanks to Christin for this idea. It was very affordable and easy to put together. The bookcase holds some sewing supplies and my older magazines (in the white binders).

Next wall is where the bigger window is and my "seating" area. I wasn't sure I wanted these chairs in here, but they are growing on me. I just need to find some nice new cushions in the accent colour I choose. These chairs belonged to my Great Uncle Allan. They are the only thing I have that was his, so I defintely want to keep them somewhere in the house. The table in the middle was given to me by my Aunt. She did a green mosaic design on the top. The Quilt to the left was a wedding present from my gramma. She made each of her grandchildren one. The boys got horses and the girls got butterflies. They are embroidered and then hand quilted all by her.

And finally the stash area :) The cubes on the left (4 little drawers) hold all my thread. The drawers in the middle hold my fabric. All the black binders hold my charts and current years magazines. On top is a teddy bear my hubby gave me for my birthday a few years ago, my ginghers in my first scissor frog, and my new ort jar. Beside that is a little basket for some easy access floss bags etc., then a bucket for thread that needs to be sorted. Next is the area for charts and magazines that need to but put away.

I hope you have enjoyed your short tour of my stash room. Come back in a few days for a more detailed post of how I have everything organized :)

Blog Hop #12 - Being Thankful

The blogging prompt for hop #12 is:

When it comes to the stitching part of your life, what are you most thankful for?

This is probably one of the easiest prompts I have had to answer.  I am most thankful to the stitching friends I have met, especially the ones I met at the Knowledge and Needles Open House back in August 2009.  Not only do I have a great group of ladies to stitch with, I have made some amazing friends who I can't imagine not being in my life.

If you want to read more about my meeting these amazing people you can check out the flowing posts:

There are a ton more with outings, but I think these sum up my meeting them :)

It only takes a moment

Before I start this post, I would like to advise my readers that it is non-stitching related.
Today I dedicate this post to my Cousins who were taken way to young.
*********************************************************

16 years ago today life changed.  It changed for me, it changed for my parents, it changed for my family.
It especially changed for my my Aunt, my Uncle, and my cousin.

August 18, 1995 started as any normal day for myself.  I don't remember exactly what I was doing, but I vaguely remember being with my friend Amy in the evening.  I also remember that when I left her house on the short walk home I had an uneasy feeling... it really can't be explained.

The phone rang around 11pm... never good news.
To this day I can still remember getting out of bed and standing at the top of the stairs and hearing my mom say back on the phone "Are they OK?"   I was then told about the accident.  I asked the same... "Are they OK"..... the answer was no........

They had been in a fatal car accident not 15 minutes away from home.  To this day there is permanent cross on the side of the road.

Age wise I was between them.  Katrina was 16, I was 17, Angela was 17, but would have had her 18th birthday that year.

They may have been taken way too early, but the memories I have of them will live forever.  They also have a beautiful little nephew.

Below are a couple of pics I got my aunt to send me.  Please dont' laugh too hard at the fashion ;)

Not sure of the year - Taken at my Gramma's house (Now Aunts)
Don't you love the white socks and black shoes lol
I also noticed when uploaded this, that they put a quilt down for us to sit on... too funny :)

I think this was taken in 1993, but not sure. Taken at my Gramma's house ~ Christmas time
OMG look at my hair!!

We think of you with love today,
As we do so often,
And feel again the bitter blow,
That never seems to soften.
Especially today we pray,
Just to let you know,
How lonely life is without you,
And how we miss you so.
No one knows the heartache,
Or what your parting cost,
But Heaven in all it's glory,
Has gained what we have lost.

Days that change your life

The weather 5 years ago was pretty much the same as it is out this morning.  Sunny but a little cool.
This was going to be one of those life changing days.
I was about the marry the man I loved, the man I loved from the moment I set eyes on him.

The day went by very quickly, but without any problems.
We were married in a beautiful church in Peterborough Ontario, and had our pictures across the road below the court house.

To this day, I still believe one of the best things we did was rent the "big purple bus".  It is a limo bus and it fit my entire wedding party.

The reception was at Sir Sandford Fleming College.... the same place we met.   That was actually his idea :)

So fast forward 5 years.  We may not have kids yet, but we do have our own house now, both of us are in jobs we enjoy, and both of us are enrolled in the CGA program to further our education.  We have lost my gramma and Blair's father, but they exist in our weddding pictures and always will.

Today is a work day like any other, but tonight we are planning on going for dinner at a nice Restaurant in town.  We are taking a cab so I can enjoy some wine as well.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last weekend I attended the Knowledge and Needles open house.  This event is extra special to me becuase it was this open house last year that my life changed again.  I met Ann and she introduced me to an amazing bunch of ladies.  From last August, I can only think of 3 months that I did not see even one of them...and that could be wrong because I might have visited the shop.
For pics of the open house please go to the blogs of  Ann, Dani, Beatrice, and Kathy.  I did take my camera, but I only got a couple of pics and haven't put them on my computer yet.
No pics of any of my WIP's either.  I did work on Paradigm Lost at the open house, but didn't get too far.
One thing I have started is the dragon/wizard for my husband, and I actually worked on the scarecrow girl for my mom last night.
Hopefully after the weekend I will have a better stitching update.
