May 2019 update

I'm behind on my updates... again
I know... shock face!

STITCHING

• May 5 - Got Coffee Quaker back from the framers.  Very happy with how it looks!

• WIPS worked on.  I feel like I worked on more, but don't have pictures to prove it.

• Tapestry (Ink Circles)

• Zen Garden (HAED)

KNITTING

• May 3rd - Finished my Blue socks (vanilla pattern, fleegle heel, Alegeria Ming)

• May 5 - Finished my sockhead hat in Lizzie Anne Seaglass.  As my LYS owner mentioned, I need to get a proper pic of this :)

• May 11 - My friend Trista and I went out for the day and stopped at a bunch of yarn shops that were participating in a yarn crawl.  Highlights included talking to Rhichard Devrieze and holding a day old baby lamb!

LIFE

• On May 21st I started my 2nd new job of 2019.... yes I know... CRAZY.  I am back in public practice, and SO MUCH happier where I am now.  So many factors lead me to switching jobs, but so happy I did

11) Who is your favorite designer?
At the moment I would say Ink Circles

12) Least Favorite Designer
Don't really like this question either... How about any who only do kits... some times I really just like the pattern

13) Will you/would you sop port a designer who's personal beliefs offended / angered you?
This is a loaded question in my opinion. I think to me it would depend on the issue

14) Do you have a lamp especially made for needleworkers/crafters?
YES!!

15) What brand of stitching lamp do you have/prefer ?
I have 4 ott lights. 2 floor lamps (one for traveling) and 2 folding desk ones (one battery)

16) What kind of environment best suits you when you are stitching?
When at home I stitch in my recliner in front of the TV. When traveling, I'm just happy to be with friends... But comfort and an outlet(power) always help

17) Have you stitched any design more then once?
I have recently done Wedding row twice. I have also done a wedding pattern out of a magazine at least twice

18) Favorite design you have stitched and finished?
At the moment this would be a toss up between Ink Circles Growth rings (at work) and AAN's Maple Leaf (still needs to find a home)

19) Least favorite design you've stitched and finished?
This would be the one I did for my cousin's ex-mother in law... For many reasons

20) Last, but not least, what's your longest running WIP?
My longest running WIP (not UFO) would be Fish City

Stitchers questions - Part 1

This is part 1 of 20 Stitchers Questions I found on Facebook

1) Which fabric do you most prefer?
I prefer eveanweave fabric, lugana.

2) What is your favorite fabric count?
I usually use 32ct, but am really liking 40ct these days ( just wish it was in evenweave lol)

3) What colour fabric do you most enjoy stitching on?
This is a hard question for me. I don't have a particular colour, and usually pick something that will work with the pattern i'm doing. After Smaug though, I won't be picking black for a while ;)

4) What is your favorite fibre?
I really like using overdyes. I have a bunch of Carrie's, and some GAST, weeks, and a few threadworks.

5) How many of the 450 DMC Colours do you own?
I have owned every one of the DMC colours over the years. One of my projects to get done in Decemer is to go through my DMC and replace what is missing.

6) Of your last 5 projects -- how many used DMC/Anchor as the main floss?
I took this as last 5 started:
Life is a stitch (Lizzie Kate) - non dmc
Christmas Quaker (AuryTM) - non dmc
Wedding Row - Bent creek (camo version) - non dmc + dmc
Fortunate Traveller (TW) - all DMC
Celtic Banner (TIAG) - both other and DMC * so i guess the answer is 1/5 (TW)

7) Of the last 5 projects, if you didn't use DMC/ANCHOR -- what did you use?

8) What needles do you prefer?

9) What is the UGLIEST design you've encountered?
I have a problem with this question because in my opinion cross stitch is art and art is subjective. What might be ugly to one isn't to others. I think the word ugly is what I have a problem with. I dislike most primitive patterns.. does that sound better?

10) What is the most BEAUTIFUL design you've encountered?
:( tough one! I am going to answer in regards to my WIP's. At the moment this would have to be Autumn Leaves.

HOCKEY

Since dating, living with, and marrying Blair, I have become a bigger and bigger hockey fan.

Years ago, before I had a head on my shoulders (aka brain), I cheered for the yard waste.  Since being with Blair, I have turned to the Ottawa Senators and happy I did.

Over the past few years, Blair and I have attended some games in Ottawa.  Nothing like seeing an NHL game live..... oh ya... a Playoff game Live!!

Random facts
1) when I was younger I thought about becoming a  flower arranger

2) I wanted to be a teacher as well when I was younger.  I had a little school set up in my parents basement and used to torment my brother with it lol

3) My bridesmaids got me to take a wedding picture coming out of a porta potty.  I also got a shot with my family cat buster.

4) I fell in love with my now husband the moment I saw him.  It was leaving a class room in college and he was wearing a Boston Bruins jersey.  Still remember where the room was too.

5) A few of my readers know this, but I can't think of anything else.  I surprised my hubby with the theme from Star Wars as our recessional at our wedding.

Back to the start

Instead of a Valentines post (A un-holiday I really don't care for) I thought I would post something different.

Sunday night was the Grammy's.  As usual, I PVR them and only watch performances that I want to watch later in the week.  Well with skipping by most of the commercials, (and who knows if it was even aired in Canada) I missed a commercial.

Twitter was all abuzz about it but I forgot to look for it.  This morning before work I was looking through some blogs in Google reader and noticed someone posted a link to it.

I think this commercial is absolutely amazing and something all of us should think about.  Although it may not be easy (especially when you are on a fixed budget) but I think even buying local one day a week is a great start.  I know for me, trying to buy local will be easier than buying overpriced "organic" items.

Kit?

Another night of studying and now time for a break.

I was trying to think of a blog post and decided to go with the same thing Christin posted.

Given the option, would you rather buy a chart and get the material and floss together yourself, or buy a pre-packed kit?


I used to buy kits all the time... until I learned there was more to cross-stitch than kits.

When I did buy kits in the past 5 years or so, I always swapped out the fabric.  I am not a fan of working with Aida any more.

I am currently doing a pattern from a kit for my hubby.  I swapped out the fabric, but wish I had of swapped the thread too... HATE IT!

So I guess to answer the question, I would rather get the material and floss myself.



Well I am off to watch a Movie and relax for a few hours before bed.  Tomorrow and Thursday are study days before my exam on Thursday night.

Simple Woman's Daybook ~ 08-Nov-2011

I noticed this on Dee's Blog yesterday and it actually comes from the simple woman's daybook.  These answers get answered every Tuesday I guess....

The answers are actually from yesterday but I didn't get a chance to post until this morning.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... Overcast and grey

I am thinking... about the assignment I need to complete tonight

I am thankful... I have managed to stay away today

I am wearing... work clothes - beige pants, brown shirt

I am creating... a spreadsheet for my boss

I am going... crazy

I am wondering...why didn't I work on my assignment on Sunday, even though I wasn't feel well

I am reading... GL reports for the spreadsheet

I am hoping... I get my assignment done before 10pm tonight, and don't have to stay up until midnight

I am looking forward to... RETREAT on friday!!

One of my favorite things... mincemeat tarts - I just got once from this little bake shop in town.  yum!

A few plans for the rest of the week: A FEW??  I WISH!! Tonight is assignment, tomorrow is photography course, Thursday is fancy dinner for work, then thank the baby Jesus I am off Friday and headed to retreat

A monthly high

Tonight was my weekly weight loss meeting.  It isn't something I dont' talk about often on my blog, but I struggle with my weight almost every day.  Since having my gall bladder removed, I am on a restricted diet for aprox. 6 weeks.  It will be 4 weeks ago tomorrow.  This revised diet actually helped me to loose some weight.  It was enough to get the Monthly High Loser at my TOPS group for October.  I did go up a bit this week, but evil chocolate is to blame!  I am going to put my certificate on my fridge and hopefully it will help me with a loss next week.  At least all the halloween candy is gone!
My group is a lovely bunch of ladies that all come to help each other out when we struggle, and help us celebrate when we have a sucess...even a small one.

I am home from my meeting now, with a salad for dinner, and hopefully can get some stitching done.  Even a little bit would be nice :)

C - Chore you hate: Any kind of cleaning - but REALLY hate doing the bathroom.

D - Dog's name: I actually have 2 cats named Leonard and Sheldon (named from The Big Bang Theory).  I did fall in love with a little puppy who was named Peru at the time.  He has since gone to his forever home and is now called Bullover's Green Hornet - Kato.  Check out tag "Puppy Peru" if you want to check out his pic.

F - Favorite color: Probably Green, but changes from time to time.

K - Kids: Don't have any kids yet - but hope too some day.  I do consider my cats my kids at the moment though... they even have their own room - which they never clean!

L - Living arrangements:  I live in a small 1.5 storey home with my husband of 5 yrs and my 2 cats.

M - Music you love: Most music except for really old country - but there are a few of those songs I can tollerat in the right environment.
